Ruta Maya
I’ve decided that in favor of good coffee and commerce I am trying to do my best to visit as many local coffee shops as possible. Since mom and Amanda are in town I decided to go downtown (about the only time I go to the Riverwalk is when people visit from out of town). I’ve read something about Ruta Maya on Soupablog, so today was the day to visit. I’m sitting here using their free wi-fi (a must for any good coffee place) on my iPhone and enjoying their own dark roast (I think it is from the other Ruta Mayas in Austin). It is served in a beer mug instead of a coffee cup, which adds a little interest. It is a bright and full drink, but I don’t know that I’d consider it dark. It is smooth and easy to drink. Amanda got a vanilla fudge latte she really liked and mom raved about her Mexican hot chocolate. I really enjoy the open warehouse style floorplan and the San Antinio flair is well done without being overdone. I also really like their 1 year banners they have up. I think my favorite feature I’d the spiral staircase in the middle of the room.
All in all a great place to come visit. It is a bit far away to hang out here all the time, especially with the hastle of parking. I would like to come visit some weekend night when they have a live band. I imagine lots of college students hang out.
