One Year of Fatherhood

Let me first say, happy birthday to my amazing son Parker. He won’t read this now (that would be kinda scary if he could read it at this point), but he has brought such amazing joy to my life. To him, everything is brand new, exciting, and fun. He loves to laugh and to give hugs. I actually sort of envy his life… so sheltered and safe, with no responsibility or cares. I mean, the boy tries to jump off the couch without fear that he will get hurt, mostly because his mommy or daddy catch him every time he tries.

Second, who really celebrates a 1 year old’s birthday actually for the kid? Let’s be honest here. The real celebration is for the parents… we’ve made it through our first year! Our first year of sleepless nights. Our first year of diapers. Our first year of bottles. Our first year to go to bed earlier than we have to because we are exhausted. Our first year to make coffee every single morning for both of us because we really needed it. Our first year of being stuck at our house after 7 pm most nights since Parker is asleep (we’ve debated leaving him sleeping by himself, but never seriously considered it). Our first year of not being just the two of us.

I am a strange person in that I am extremely right brained AND left brained at the same time. So to fill both the analytical and the artistic I will post some stats followed by just a couple meaningful photos of Parker during his first year.

Stats (most are by my best estimation, usually rounding down so I’m not bragging)

630 bottles made/cleaned/sterilized/dried

No-Shave November

Ok, so I missed doing a Flickr Friday post. Next I thought, ok I’ll do a Flickr Saturday post. No go. Finally it is a Flickr Sunday, and this time I’m going to post, I promise.

My family game to visit last week so that Melia, Amanda, Audrey, Matt, and Kade could meet Parker for the first time and so that Mom, Dad, and James could see him and everyone else again. It was crazy fun having everyone together in my neck of the woods. This is the first time since my wedding that everyone has been together in San Antonio (everyone except Mike that is…we missed you).

I was tired of just sitting watching tv or playing on the computer, so I grabbed my strobes and looked for something in my house to take pictures of.

These are some wild onion flower thingys that pop up in my yard whenever we get rain. I usually pick a bunch for Christina whenever they show up. I played around with different lighting schemes and even messed with CTO filters. The CTO filter stuff looked interesting but didn’t really fit this grouping. It made the walls look more blue than the green I was going for. I couldn’t figure out a way to get the green wall in our living room to truly look green. I like the grayish color that came out on these images though.

Strobist Info: 2 285HVs fired with poverty wizards. 1 camera left through a shoot through umbrella, the other high and moved around (sometimes right down on flowers and bare, other times aimed at the wall and snooted)
